Part 1: Population Comparison
- Title Page – country names, basic facts, location (map), size, climate, economy, government (5 marks)
- Devise Population Data Charts/ Graphs/ Tables of your African countries and Canada (10 marks) – show all your calculations!!
- For the last 5 years: population size, birth rates, death rates, growth rate, natural increase, migration rates
- Doubling time, life expectancy, infant mortality rate, urban population rate, pop density
- Paragraph – compare and contrast the population statistics of Canada and your countries – include a discussion of where they lie on the Demographic Transition Model and what that tells us about the countries. (5 marks)
- Population Pyramid for your African countries and Canada – clearly labelled with dependency ratio and stage of growth (5 marks)
- Paragraph – analysis of the pyramids in step 4 (5 marks)
- Conclusion Paragraph – summarize your analysis of the demographic situation in your countries. Discuss the present situation and potential future of your countries based on the population growth projections and population pyramid. (10 marks)

Part 2: Living Standards
- Title page - Design a title page for this part of the project. It must clearly illustrate one or more of the key development issues facing one of your African your countries. (10 marks)
- Paragraph – introduce the country's culture. Include ethnic groups, languages, religions, government type, etc. (5 marks)
- Level of Human Development – include: (15 marks)
- Data from UNHDI
- Status of women – education, literacy, etc.
- Status of children – infant mortality, disease, labour, etc.
- Access to health services, disease issues, sanitation
- Access to safe water and food security
- Write a short observational Paragraph – that summarizes your views (or conclusions) of the development level in your country based on your data as it compares your experiences in Canada. Make specific references to step 3 above. What can be done to help this country to improve its standard of living? (10 marks)
