It is expected that students will demonstrate competence in the use of technologies specific to investigative procedures and research.
Students who have fully met the prescribed learning outcome are able to:
- Select and carefully use appropriate technologies, including:
- microscope (lesson ideas)
- balances and other measurement tools (e.g., thermometers, voltmeter, ammeter, Van de Graaff
generator) (video clip)
- electrical circuitry devices (e.g., batteries, power supplies,
switches, lamps, resistors)

- Proficiently use the Internet as a research tool
RESOURCES
Before they start up their computers, students should have a plan. Assign them a specific task, question, or problem to solve and suggest the following search strategy:
Define What do I really want to find out?
Locate Where can I find the information I need?
Select What information do I really need to use?
Organize How can I best use this information?
Present How can I present this information?
Evaluate What did I learn from this?

Here is come help using the internet as an effective research tool
- Start with a human search engine.
- Finding the right "key" words
- Improve your Google searches
- Databases give you well-written and edited resources
- Cite sources
( We recommend that students create a Work Cited Page at the very beginning of online research. They key in information about each source as soon they have decided that it is valuable. It is similar to scanning the "abstracts" in a literature review, and prevents students from getting " stuck" on one site and overlooking others ( e.g. Wikipedia, which often comes up at the top of a Google search.
Students can also copy the citation to the top of each page of notes to ensure that they know where the information and quotes came from.)
