MORE NEWS THAN EVER?
Absolutely. Used to be that civil servants worked quietly in the bowels of Ottawa, perhaps writing an annual 2-page newsletter that was sent by post to libraries across Canada so that a basically bored public could know how their tax dollar was spent. Larger publications took years to publish in print. Now there are splashy web pages, managed by publicists/communictions departments . All great and humble institutions: museums, NGO’s, commercial ventures have NEWS.
Clearly the age of digitized data and instant communication has changed everything. Pretty much everything you need is a click away.
So what hasn’t changed? - The need for teachers to carefully select resources to use in resource-based lessons, which engage children in critical thinking about the their world.
