Fantasy: e.g. J.R. Tolkien
Imaginary places and unpronounceable names like “Glgzthys”, King Arthur tone, imaginary myth-making
Horror: e.g. Steven King
Way more blood and gore than your straight murder mystery; takes place
on earth in normal settings but full of abnormals such as: psychotic
serial killers, ESP, aliens whose main job is to create blood and gore,
not to conquer earth
Mystery: e.g. Agatha Christie
A.k.a. Murder Mystery, Suspense, NO aliens or vampires or ESP
Science Fiction: e.g. Ray Bradbury
Classic Sci Fi has planets and space ships: aliens but NOT on earth;
also "normal" stories set in the future - semi satirical making
comments on today's society through futuristic scenerios, e.g. firemen
start fires (Fahrenheit 451) rather than putting them out.
Romance: e.g. Danielle Steele
Love, stylized, romanticized love - not much about real relationships
Realistic fiction: e.g. Lurleen McDaniel
Real social problems: death and dying, anorexia, incest, gay issues, divorce, siblings, drugs etc.
Action: e.g. John Grisham
War and spy, blockbuster novels and global adventures; not much about
human characters - the sets have the personality: towering infernos,
submarines
Historical Fiction:
Regular stories but set in real historical settings such as Ancient
Egypt, Medieval England (NOT mythical imaginary fantastical place -
those go in Fantasy)
Classics: e.g. Charles Dickens
Not modern, the old well - written, have survived generation of readers
