LET THE SPIN BEGIN!

WHAT'S NEW?

ELECTION WEB 2.0 - AN ONLINE OPPORTUNITY FOR STUDENTS TO BE PART OF ELECTION FEVER

From blogs to online videos to tweets, watch how this election evolves. We'll show you what's making news on the internet. Even better, take part. Send us your videos — why not campaign ads? How about photos from the campaign trail? It's a brave new world of politics on the web.

Analyze the effectiveness of these Political Television Advertisements

Show the ads and ask students to answer the following questions about each ad

  1. What explicit issues or values are communicated?
  2. What issues or values are not stated explicitly?
  3. Negative or positive: Is the ad primarily for a leader or party (a positive ad) or is it primarily against another leader or party (a negative ad).
  4. Is the ad effective and believable? Are you convinced? Why, or why not?
  5. Would you vote for this party?

Give each ad a score 1 – 4, least to highest effectiveness.
Tabulate total class score. Discuss
