We are going to stage four international press conferences set in 1939 (just before WWII) for government leaders who represent Germany (Hitler), Italy (Mussolini), Russia (Stalin) and The United States (Roosevelt).
STUDENTS WILL WORK IN GROUPS OF 3-4 AND BE ASSIGNED TO REPRESENT A COUNTRY (2 GROUPS PER COUNTRY)
EACH STUDENT IS RESPONSIBLE TO:
- Research the history of their country and leader in order to answer SPECIFIC QUESTIONS at the press conference. Every member of a group should be able to answer ALL their country's questions, speakers will be chosen randomly.
- Take notes at the press conferences of the 3 other countries and
- Write a biased engaging article......about something interesting from the press conference that shows you understand the issues.
- Hand in their article and complete notes on 3 countries
- Post their article on the class blog.

NOTE! To prepare for your provincial exam, you should also know the history of all 4 countries, including:
- Background history 1939 and before
- Primary written works (treaties, pacts, use your notes as a guide)
- Goals/aims of country
- Rise to power
- Ideological beliefs
- Base of popularity or power of leader (i.e., who supports him?)
- Key conflicts in which the leader was involved
- Personality of the leader – how he would answer the questions?
- Political and economic policies and beliefs
